Hanoi Schedule
Day 1 Hanoi
The official name of the One Pillar Temple is Yanyou Temple, also known as Lotus Terrace, which is located in the southwest of Ba Dinh Square. The temple is small but famous and its uniqueness is that it stands on a pillar in the center of the lotus pond, which means that a pure lotus blossoms from the sea of suffering.
The shape of the One-Pillar Temple is very beautiful. The 4-meter-high stone pillar symbolizes the flower stalk. The temple body and the slightly upturned eaves on the four sides form the petals. Under the front eaves, there is a plaque of “Lotus Terrace”.
It is said that the One Pillar Pagoda is very effective, and local people come here to burn incense and make a wish. You can go up to the entrance of the temple through a staircase, but you cannot enter it.
You may as well go to the village to burn incense and worship Buddha. However, due to limited space, tourists often have to queue to get up. Due to several repairs, the scale of the existing temple is smaller than the original one, but the shape and style are still preserved.
According to the legend of the One Pillar Temple, Li Taizu once dreamed that the Guanyin Bodhisattva sitting on a lotus leaf handed him a baby boy. Soon Li Taizu married a young peasant girl. She later gave birth to a boy for Li Taizu, who was exactly the same as the baby boy in his dream. So, Li Taizu ordered the construction of the One-Pillar Temple to thank him, so the One-Pillar Temple looks like a lotus flower.
Next Stop: Ho Chi Minh Tomb
The Ho Chi Minh Tomb is located in the middle of Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi. It was built to commemorate Ho Chi Minh for future generations to pay their respects
Next Stop: St. Joseph’s Cathedral
St. Joseph’s Cathedral is an ancient church in Hanoi. It is a representative French building in Hanoi. The Cathedral features a complex main altar inside, fitted with stained-glass windows, and consists of two square-shaped towers.
The gate of the Cathedral will only open when the mass is conducted, and visitors need to use side doors when it is closed. Opposite to the Cathedral is Nha Tho Street, where Hanoi’s emerging boutique shops and cafes are located.
Day 2 in Hanoi
Hoan Kiem Lake is located in the heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, surrounded by tree-lined walkways. It is a place for locals to enjoy the cool and take a walk.
There are two buildings on the lake, Ngoc Son Temple on the north and Tortoise Tower on the south.
In addition to the beautiful lake view, you can also see the typical local architectures around. On the northeast side of Hoan Kiem Lake, there is a red The Huc Bridge, which connects to the Yushan Temple in the center of the northern part of the lake. It is a perfect spot for taking pictures.
Day 3 in Hanoi
The Vietnam Women’s Museum was officially opened on October 20, 1995. Here you can learn more about the living conditions of Vietnamese women. The exhibition not only celebrates the female soldiers who fought for their country, but also has an excellent exhibition on social equality, development, and peace.
